Rajat Parr is basically the patron saint of Sommeliers. If you watched any of the 'Somm' films on Netflix (if not you should), you will be familiar with him. A hotshot sommelier first, then business owner, he then turned to wine making. He and his wine making partner Sashi Moorman first created SANDHI, then they rejuvinated the EVENING LAND vineyards in Oregon. This 4-Pack has a Chardonnay & Pinot Noir from each estate.
SANDHI has made some serious waves in th Californian wine scene in the past few years. The best entry-level Chardonnay we have been able to make, winemaker Sashi Moorman says. We planted about 35 acres of Chardonnay at Domaine de la Côte. Most of it goes into the Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay, but any juice that is pressed is declassified into the Central Coast Chardonnay (92 Points, Wine Advocate). The Santa Rita Hills Pinot is equally mesmeric: 50% estate fruit destemmed. Medium ruby-purple, pretty scents of rhubarb, blueberries and tea leaves with savory notes of pipe tobacco, flint and woodsmoke. The medium-bodied palate is delicate, bright and chalky with perfumed fruits and a long, floral finish. (93 Points, Wine Advocate).
EVENING LANDS is a heritage site in Salem Oregon which boasts the Seven Seas vineyards. The Seven Seas Chardonnay is special: takes off on a sprint - reflecting focused picking decisions and long élevage for a wine that races across the palate, then lingers on savory elements. It’s lifted from the get-go, with a sharp lemony scent framed by leesy notes that are slightly and pleasingly sour. The citrus notes deepen on the palate, the flavors of orange and lemon peel joining the lemon-lime vibes, all of it in the light grip of phenolics. (93 Points, Wine & Spirits). Seven Springs Pinot Noir was one of the stand out performers of the vintage: Highly Recommended: Elegant and refined in structure, this opens with vibrant rose petal and raspberry scents and leads to intriguing layers of black cherry, crushed stone and savory spice. Finishes with fine-grained tannins. (94 Points, Wine Spectator).
