In ancient times it was a sign of respect to one's defeated opponent that you might wear their armour. We will not re-litigate last Friday's emphatic victory in Marseilles - we Irish don't keep a lid on things very well...at least the players do! We thought it a great time to pay hommage to French wine. Further down the mail we have a few goodies from Champagne, Beaujolais & Burgundy, but at the top of it all we have a dynamite Classic France 6 Nations 6-Pack - six salt of the earth numbers for just €89.
The first of 2 whites, our favourite FDS Chardonnay Colllection is a Chardy that sees a lick of oak but with a great starbust of acid. Domaine de Seailles 'Presto' from Gascogne will keep Sauv. Blanc and non Sauv. Blanc drinkers happy, as there is a little twist of Sauvignon Gris to give a bit of depth. There are 4 reds. From the South end of Burgundy, Tacherons Pinot Noir, is elegant and fragrant. Chateau de Montfrin Cotes-du-Rhone is an inky Grenache-led beauty. The very popular Haut Dambert 'Cuvee Clemence' is a meaty Cru Bourg. Bordeaux and Domaine Pressoir Saumur de Silice is a stylish Cabernet Franc from the Loire.
