FLC#9 - Veronica Ortega / Bodegas Veronica Ortega

For FLC#9, we were joined by leading Spanish light Veronica Ortega. Hailing from Cadiz in sherry country, Veronica has previously worked at some of the greatest wineries in the world – Domaine de la Romanee Conti, Comtes Armand, Clos Erasmus, Burn Cottage, Domaine Combier, Raul Perez, and Rafael Palacios. This is possibly one of the world’s greatest wine resumes.

She now farms several plots of 80-100 year old vines organically in Bierzo, a region with an ancient winemaking tradition and a unique climate where maritime influences from western Galicia meet the arid heat of the central meseta. It is here that she works with Mencia, a grape that bears many similarities to both Pinot Noir and Syrah – bright acidity, deep flavours and an ability to express terroir clearly.
